Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is not mad at Luis Enrique for omitting his name from the national team's preliminary squad.
The 35-year old has had arguably one of the worst years of his career as he has struggled with injury and consistency through the 2020.21 campaign.
Since March, Ramos has only played once due to muscle injuries and a knee problem that required surgery and these factors were key in his omission, despite his undeniable quality in defence.
Hours after it was confirmed he would not be in the Spain squad, Ramos took to Instagram with a brutally honest statement.

“After a few messed up months and an atypical and different season that what I’ve lived my entire career, Eurocup also joins.
“I’ve fought and worked every day in body and soul to be able to reach 100% for Real Madrid and the national team but things don’t always work out the way we’d like.
"It pains me not to have been able to help my team more and not to play for Spain but, in this case, the best thing to do is to rest.”
Meanwhile, Spain go into a major tournament without a Real Madrid player for the first time in their history. Boss Luis Enrique also felt gutted, leaving Ramos out of the squad, but believes it is in the team’s best interests. He said:
"I feel bad, because he is very professional and he helps the national team a lot. And he can still help it in the future. But I have to look for the best for the squad."
Another notable player within the Spain squad is Aymeric Laporte, who only recently switched allegiance to Spain from France.
Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez also received a call-up, despite being the fourth choice in the English club.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Sergio Ramos has been left out of Spain's final squad for the European 2020 Championship which will start in the coming month.
In fact, no player from Real Madrid was selected for the tournament and this will be the first time in Spain's history that no Los Blancos' star is playing in a major championship.
Luis Enrique who is the coach of Spain decided to include Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte in his final squad thanks to his superb performances at the just concluded EPL term.
