Daniel Amokachi has finally responded to claims made by Raheem Lawal that he dropped him from the 2013 final squad for the African Cup of Nations.
Super Eagles of Nigeria were superb in the tournament winning it by beating Burkina Faso in the final.
Before late coach Stephen Keshi took the Super Eagles to South Africa for the 2013 African Cup of Nations, Raheem Lawal was in the camp and was dropped at the last minutes.
But eight years after Nigeria won third African Cup of Nations title, Raheem Lawal explained that he was dropped by assistant coach Daniel Amokachi who never wanted him to be part of the squad.
8 years after, ex-Super Eagles star 'attacks' legend Amokachi over his omission from 2013 AFCON winning squad
According to the report on Complete Sports citing Brila FM, Daniel Amokachi stated clearly that the 31-year-old was dropped because he was not in the right frame of mind.
Daniel Amokachi also confirmed that Raheem Lawal was a good player then in the Super Eagles camp and was even tipped to replace Austin Okocha because of his styles of play.
“He was not in the right state as at that particular time and that was why we had younger players from the home-based team take his place.
“So, it was difficult for any player who was not in the right state or not doing well at that point with his club to make the team.''
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have not won the African Cup of Nations championship since the last time they did in 2013.
