Despite not yet resolving his future at Spanish giants Barcelona, Lionel Messi has taken positive drive from the Copa del Rey himself and his teammates won this season.
The Catalans this term failed in their fight to win the League title which has been won by Atletico Madrid and they were also unable to succeed in the Champions League.
Lionel Messi's contract is coming to an end this summer and the club's chiefs are still trying to convince the Argentine football legend to sign a new deal.
According to the report on Mirror, Lionel Messi explained that he is glad to have helped the club win the Copa del Rey as the Catalans will be ending the term with a trophy.
"The truth is that the recent Copa del Rey was special due to the period we were in, the club has gone a couple of years of not having a great time due to different results and titles.
"Because it is a very young dressing room, with a lot of people, and new people, and this Copa del Rey for the dressing room was a turning point, and very important.
"Whenever I compete, I compete to win and try to achieve all the objectives, to get titles. Beyond that, I like to win and get titles. The more the better."
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Argentinian goalkeeper Edgar Bardia was stunned when legendary Lionel Messi requested for his shirt in return after Barcelona recorded a 3-0 win over Elche in the La Liga.
Lionel Messi scored a brace and one of which was his trademark goal as Jordi Alba put the cherry on the cake.
The three points mean Barcelona are still in contention for the La Liga title this season as they are just five points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid.
Immediately after the final whistle against Elche, goalkeeper Badia rushed towards Messi to ask for his icon’s jersey.
The win was Barcelona's first in two matches after their 4-1 thumping by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and was followed up by a disappointing La Liga draw against Cadiz.
