Former Super Eagles Goalkeeper Conferred With Huge Traditional Title in Ogun State

Former Nigerian international, Ike Shorunmu, has been conferred with the traditional title of the Olunla of Waasimi by the government of Ogun State, Global Times reports.
‘Ike Anobi’ was crowned on May 1 by the Oniwaasimi of Waasimi, Oba Emanuel, Babatunde Osuntogun.
He received the royal title in grand style amid fanfare in the presence of other local chiefs as well as the state government officials.
And in a swift, the national president of Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi celebrated with the former Stationery Stores, Basel, and Besiktas goalkeeper.
Abayomi wrote:
“Congratulations to Ike Anobi, everyone would attest to the fact that his hands were safe while he was a goalkeeper, the Monarch of his town can also be sure that whatever he delegates, the former Goalkeeper is capable."

An indigene of Waasimi, Ewekoro Local government in Ogun state, Ike was born in Lagos and was Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper at the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup.
He kept for Concord FC, Shooting Stars, FC Zurich, Samsunspor, and Sportclub Young Fellows Juventus of Switzerland.
Meanwhile, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba was earlier crowned a traditional chieftaincy title holder in a village in his home country, Ivory Coast.
The 43-year-old Champions League winner was named the Nanan Kadio Morokro III of Niable village on Tuesday, December 15.
This prestigious traditional title was bestowed upon the Premier League striker and icon by the founder of the village Nanan Kouakou Kouao the Patient III.
The former Ivory Coast captain was enthroned in the pure Akan tradition and received the attributes of a chief.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Asamoah Gyan, ex-Black Stars player, bagged a chieftaincy title in the Gbi Traditional Area in Hohoe.
The former Ghanaian star forward was enstooled with the title of Togbui Ngoryifia Dormenyotor after sponsoring the digging of a borehole at the St. Francis College of Education.
The player’s philanthropic gesture for the people of the area, most importantly after solving an age-long water crisis, impressed the opinion leaders of the town, leading to his installation as the local chief.
