With the Ballon d’Or awards not taking place in the year 2020 due to the effect of the pandemic, a special award will be handed out tagged of the Player of the Century.
Globe Soccer Awards, organised by EFAA (European Association of Player's Agents) and the ECA (European Club Association) have come up with 28 nominees for the prestigious award.
France Football who regularly holds the annual Ballon d’Or awards claim that there is a lack of sufficient fair conditions to give the award to any player in all categories.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated the awards for over a decade and the Barcelona star who currently holds the 2019 edition, will remain unchallenged until 2021.
Such decision received heavy criticism across the world due to the fact that the season was eventually completed and German star Robert Lewandowski had been tipped to win it.
However, the Bayern Munich striker can have a chance to claim the award of the Player of the Century after Globe Soccer Awards mentioned him alongside other nominees on Twitter.
The Globe Soccer Award has only been happening since 2010 when only four awards were handed out - and in 2012 they named Diego Maradona as the 'Best Player of the Century.'
Presumably, that award would have at least been for the already-completed century, but it just makes this award, only eight years later, seem all the weirder.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo is now officially the fourth highest goal scorer in the history of football after netting a brace in Juventus 2-0 win against Cagliari.
His first goal against Cagliari saw him pass Ferenc Puskas’ tally of 746 career goals, with the Portuguese now having scored 748 after scoring his second against the Italian club.
If you combine Ronaldo's 102 finishes on the international stage with Portugal to his club career tally of 646 goals with Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real and Juventus, you arrive at a total of 746 goals for him.
