Sierra Leone came from four goals down to force Nigeria to a 4-4 draw in their 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The Super Eagles got the game off to a blistering start after Alex Iwobi found the back of the net just four minutes into the game.

With much control and dominance in the opening half, Victor Osimhen doubled his side's lead in the 21st minute.

Coach Gernot Rohr's men maintained their dominance towards the half-hour mark as Everton forward Iwobi made it three for Nigeria while he completed his brace in the game.

And in the 29th minute, Samuel Chukwueze scored a brilliant solo goal having dribbled past three Leone stars from the right-wing before roofing the ball as Nigeria went four goals up in the opening half.

However, the three-time African kings went to sleep from the 41st minute after allowing Kwame Quee to reduce his side's deficit.

Al-Hadji Kamara scored twice in the 72nd and 86th minutes while Mustapha Bundu's 80th-minute strike earned the visitors a point in Benin.

Confusion as Nigerian striker who has scored 9 goals this season gets invitation to the Super Eagles team

He scored twice for Steven Gerrard's men before heading to Nigeria for the AFCON qualifier against the Leone Stars but failed to replicate his form for his national team.

The attacker was not as productive for the Super Eagles as he would have been for his European club side.

2. Maduka Okoye

The 21-year-old German-born Nigerian star played all 90 minutes in the fixture at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

He leaked three goals in the space of 18 minutes as the home team crumbled from their convincing lead to salvage a draw in the end.

3. Ahmed Musa:

The forward should be a veteran by now in the Super Eagles fold but his sojourn away from top European competitions appears to be affecting his game.

He played for 62 minutes and his contributions were below average before being substituted by his manager.

4. Paul Onuachu:

He was handed a late call up after Moses Simon pulled out due to injury but the tall striker still does not value his invitation to the national team.

5. William Troost-Ekong:

The new Watford centre-back still can't find his feet in the national team since he moved to England from Italy in the summer.

Recalled he was found wanting during Nigeria's friendly match against Tunisia last month and a similar performance repeated itself this evening.

The efforts of Leon Balogun saved his blushes in most part of the game but the former Bundesliga star had to come out in the 62nd minute after which the defence leaked three goals in 18 minutes.

Legit.ng earlier reported that it is definitely a night full of regrets for the Super Eagles of Nigeria having watched their four-goal lead slip away right at home as visitors Sierra Leone stole a point.

Two goals by Alex Iwobi and a goal each from Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze saw Nigeria go 4-0 ahead as early as the 29th minute.

However, the visitors replied every single goal courtesy a brace by Al-Hadji Kamara and a goal each from Kwame Quee and Mustapha Bundu as it ended 4-4.
