Super Eagles of Nigeria who are three-time African champions on Friday night, October 9, suffered 1-0 defeat against Algeria in an international friendly game played in Austria.
Algeria went into this encounter with their status as the African champions plus the fact that they have not lost any match in their last 18 encounters which boosted their morale.
The last time they faced Super Eagles before this game, Algeria defeated Nigeria in the semifinal of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in which Manchester City star Mahrez scored the winner.
Algeria went on to win the championship in Egypt beating Senegal in the final.
They started this friendly game against Nigeria on an impressive note and they scored their goal in the 6th minute through 25-year-old defender Ramy Bensebaini.
Super Eagles tried all they could to restore parity, but they were unable to do so as Algeria won the encounter.
However, Nigerians were not happy with the performance of Genk forward Paul Onuachu who missed lot of chances in the encounter.
Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho was also blamed for his performance and appearance in this duel.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will be facing Tunisia next week Wednesday in their next friendly encounter. Super Eagles beat them in third place match at the 2019 Nations Cup in Egypt.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how it was fight to finish at the prestigious Jacques Lemans Arena Die Zeit in St. Veit, Austria as African champions Algeria defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a friendly.
Nigeria returned to international action since their 4-2 home win against Lesotho in November 2019 and Gernot Rohr’s side, having won their first two games in Group L, lead the group with six points.
The game is part of two warm-up matches for the Eagles ahead of their AFCON 2022 qualifiers against Sierra Leone in November.
Nigeria played the game against Algeria without regular players including Oghenekaro Etebo, Wilfred Ndidi and Joe Aribo and it showed.
The Desert Foxed looked the better side in all departments with many of the Nigerian stars struggling.
