Samuel Okwaraji's mother gets N50K from Sports ministry, placed on monthly N10K stipend

- Minister Sunday Dare also sent some food items to the woman
Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth development under Minister Sunday Dare has extended his hands of generosity to the mother of late Super Eagles star Samuel Okwaraji by sending food items and cash of N50,000 to her.
This comes days after mother of Rashidi Yekini got the same amount of money from the Ministry of Sports in which she was also placed on N10,000 monthly as stipend.
There have been news that Samuel Okwaraji's mother has been down since the shocking death of her son 31 years year ago and she has not yet recover from the shock of losing her son.
Okwaraji died on August 12th, 1989 while playing for Nigeria during a World Cup qualification match against Angola at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Many Nigerians are still battling to cope with the pains his death brought to football fraternities.
Representing the Minister in Enugu, Bamidele Ajayi delivered the food items to the father of the deceased with the cash.
''I have always been drawn to greatness and I admire people who live their lives to elevate the status of their community and nation. Okwaraji was not just a footballer, he was an icon and great patriot.
“He was a great professional who redefined football in Nigeria with many young talents benefiting from his ingenuity and sacrifices by re-writing our country name in gold in world football,'' words of the Minister.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Sports under the leadership of Honorable Sunday Dare placed mother of late Super Eagles striker Rashidi Yekini on a monthly stipend of N10,000.
This latest development comes eight years after the death of Rashidi Yekini who remains as Super Eagles leading scorer with 37 goals.
Since the death of late Rashidi Yekini, the mother of the legend has been battling for survival in Ijagbo, Kwara state where she lives.
And on Wednesday, May 6, Sports Minister Sunday Dare directed his representative Olaitan Shittu to visit Rashidi Yekini's mother where she was given Ramadan gifts.
Some of the items donated with the cash included a 50 kg bag of rice, 10 kg bag of wheat and six tins of Milo beverage drink.
