Karim Benzema sets new La Liga record, scores against 34 different teams

Karim Benzema continued his marvelous scoring record when he found the back of the net against Huesca in a La Liga game played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The bottom placed side were the 34th opponent Benzema has scored against, a record that neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi have matched.

Benzema now holds the record, beating former Real and Atletico striker Hugo Sanchez striker, who has scored against 33 different topflight opponents.

The ex-France international tied the record last season when he found the back of the net against Leganes, the only team Ronaldo failed to score against before leaving for Juventus.

His 90th minute strike secured all three points for Real Madrid as the scores were tied at 2-2, until the last gasp effort.

On the hand, Messi has scored against 37 of the 40 teams he has played against with Cadiz, Murcia and Huesca the sides Messi has not scored against.

Cadiz are currently sixth in the second-tier league while Murcia are languishing 12th in one of Spain's four third-tier divisions.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has scored against 32 out of the 33 teams he has faced while Real Madrid legend Raul scored against 35 different teams, but failed to score against four other sides.

Benzema's fourth goal from his last five league matches took his tally for the season up to 14, which is 10 shy of his best La Liga tally during the 2015-16 season.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Pope Francis has insisted Lionel Messi is nothing compared to God but admits the Argentine is a great player.
