Aso Villa, Abuja - President Bola Tinubu has been able to broker peace in the political crisis rocking Rivers as the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, December 18.
According to a tweet from the office of the special adviser to the president on social media, the president held a closed-door meeting with Wike, who is now the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), former governor Peter Odili and other stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the growing crisis.
Governor Fubara, who was also present at the meeting, signed a peace deal with the leadership of the state house of assembly, the Wike's faction, who decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fubara drops court cases against Wike's loyalists, impeachment move drops
The governor agreed to withdraw all the suits instituted against the defected lawmakers, while the house of assembly agreed that all impeachment moves against Fubara would be dropped.
Another significant agreement reached at the resolution was the independence of the legislature. Fubara and Wike's faction agreed that the governor would not interfere in the house's activities while the lawmakers would be allowed to hold meetings at their place of choice.
Governor Fubara has also agreed to reinstate the fullthe funding of the state house of assembly, and he will not interfere in the legislature's finances from now on.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Rivers state political crisis has taken a new shape. Commissioners serving under Governor Fubara have started dumping the governor as he failed to make peace with his predecessor and godfather, Wike.
As of the time of writing this report, no less than eight of the 18 commissioners have tendered their resignation as of Friday morning, December 15.
