Appeal court affirms Mbah’s victory as governor
The three-member panel of the Appeal Court presided over by Justice Tani Yusuf Hassan held that the appellant failed to prove that the respondent forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, and was not qualified to contest the governorship election.
Recall that after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mbah the winner of the March 18 governorship election with 160,895 votes, Edeoga, who came second with 157,552 votes approached the tribunal to disqualify Mbah and declare him the winner of the election. He claimed he garnered the highest valid votes cast.
The petitioners also challenged the candidacy of the governor over an alleged forgery of his NYSC certificate.
But Channels Television reported that the Appeal Court held that the NYSC and its director general (DG) were guilty of misrepresentation of facts.
Now, unless Edeoga decides to approach the Supreme Court and the apex court changes the verdicts of the lower courts, Mbah will lead Enugu state till May 2027.
