Tribunal Gives Verdict On NNPP Petition Challenging APC’s Ado Doguwa’s victory

Kano state - The election tribunal sitting in Kano state has upheld the election victory of Alhassan Ado Doguwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing the Doguwa/Tudunwada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The three panel Judge led by Justice L. B. Owolabi dismissed the petition filed by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate, Salisu Yushau in its judgement on Monday, October 23, Vanguard reported.

The tribunal ruled that Yushau failed to prove his petition beyond reasonable doubt against the former majority leader.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Owolabi alleged corrupt practices, non-compliance with electoral law, and failure to have the needed lawful votes to win the election, were baseless and could not be accepted as reasons to cancel the February 25th election.

According to Nigerian Tribune, Justice Owolabi questioned how all the petitioner’s witnesses arrived at their various Polling Units same time and witnessed overvoting but could not recognise their results sheets.

The judge threw away their evidence, stating that it could not stand the test of time.

“The Petitioner in whole has failed to make any case capable of truncating the Election of Alhassan Ado Doguwa as such he is hereby returned duly elected by a majority votes”.

Doguwa arrested At Kano airport

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Doguwa was arrested by the police at the Kano airport for his alleged role in the killing of several persons and burning of the secretariat of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) during the just concluded polls.

The police had confirmed that at least three persons were killed when the campaign secretariat of the NNPP in Tudunwada was set ablaze.

Two persons were burnt to death during the crisis that broke out during the collation of the results of the Doguwa/Tudunwada House of Representatives election, which Doguwa was eventually declared to have won.
