BREAKING: Drama as Suit Against Emefiele Could Not Be Heard After Arriving in Court

FCT, Abuja - Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was arraigned before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja on Thursday, August 17, over the alleged N6.9 billion procurement fraud.
However, the proceedings were stalled as a result of the absence of the first and second defendants because they were said. to be indisposed, Channels Television reported.
Why N6.9bn suit against Emefiele stalled
Justice Hamza Muazu, the presiding judge on the case, adjourned the matter to Wednesday, August 23, after the application for the adjournment.

The suspended CBN governor will be arraigned with a female employee of the apex bank, Sa’adatu Yaro and her company April1616 Investment Limited, on 20 count charges, including conferment of corrupt advantage on associates, procurement fraud and conspiracy.
Emefiele has been in detention at the State Security Service (SSS) since President Bola Tinubu suspended him. He was accused of conferring corrupt advantages on Yaro, a director, in April 1616 Investment Ltd.
What Emefiele was earlier arraigned for
He was earlier accused of illegally procuring guns, but the court granted him bail on the grounds that his offence was bailable.
But the SSS immediately re-arrested him at the court premises after confronting the prison officers.
The secret police soon dropped the case of illegal procession of firearms and said the new investigation showed that Emefiele was involved in the alleged N6.9 billion procurement fraud.
N6.9bn procurement fraud: Emefiele may be jailed without option of fine
Legit.ng earlier reported that Godwin Emefiele, the suspended CBN governor, will appear in court again on Thursday over a N6.9 billion procurement fraud allegation.
Emefiele was accused of conferring a corrupt advantage on a CBN employee, Sa'adatu Yaro, the director of April1616 Investment Limited.
If found guilty, section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 confers five years jail term without the option of a fine.
