- The DSS has said it has charged the suspended governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, to court following a federal high court ruling earlier on Thursday
- Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson of the DSS, disclosed that the move was in response to the judgment of Justice Hamza Muazu of the Abuja federal high court on the same day
- However, the secret police did not reveal the court, state or charges levelled against the suspended governor of the apex bank
FCT, Abuja - Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been charged to court by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Peter Afunanya, the service spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, July 13, adding that the move was to comply with the ruling of the high court sitting at the federal capital territory (FCT), Channels Television reported.

However, the secret police did not disclose the state in which the former CBN governor was being charged, nor did it reveal the allegations brought against Emefiele before the unnamed court.
The statement reads in part:
“The public may recall that the Service had, in 2022, applied for a Court Order to detain him regarding a criminal investigation.”
Why did DSS arrest Emefiele?
Afunanya recalled that Emefiele obtained a restraining order from the FCT high court, but the former CBN governor was arrested earlier in June over suspected fresh criminal infractions and information, adding that one of them was the reason why he was being prosecuted.
The DSS then promised Nigerians that professionalism would be adopted and justice and fairness would be pursued in the case.
Earlier on Thursday, Justice Hamza Muazu of the federal high court in Abuja issued a one-week ultimatum to the DSS to charge Emefiele to court or release him.
"Yari knows why he was invited": DSS speaks on APC Senator in its detention.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the DSS had denied the report that the service arrested Senator Abdulaziz Yari for refusing to pick up President Bola Tinubu's telephone call.
According to the DSS statement, Yari knew why he was arrested and detained in the service's custody.
Yari contested for the position of Senate President against the arrangement of the APC leadership and its preferred candidate, Godswill Akpabio.
