Aso Rock, Abuja - President Bola Tinubu has sacked all the service chiefs and announced the appointment of new ones, on Monday, June 19.
The development is coming exactly three weeks since the president took the oath of office and he directed the new service chiefs to resume with immediate effect.
Names, portfolio of service chiefs Tinubu sacked
President Tinubu's directive was disclosed in a statement signed by the director of information, Willie Bassey, on behalf of George Akume, the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), and shared by Bayo Onanuga, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his Twitter page.

The statement reads in part:
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect.”
Those affected by the latest move of the president include Lucky Irabor, sacked as the Chief of Defence Staff; Awwal Gambo, removed as the Chief of Naval Staff; Faruk Yahaya, who retired as the Chief of Army Staff; Alkali Usman who was removed as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP); and Isiaka Amao, retired as Chief of Air Staff.
List of Buhari appointees Tinubu has suspended
President Tinubu in his second and third week in office suspended the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.
Both Bawa and Emefiele were appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Many political pundits have commended the president for making swift moves in repositioning the country.

President Tinubu departs Nigeria for France on Tuesday
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu will be out of Nigeria on Tuesday for the signing of a New Global Financial Pact in Paris, the capital of France.
The visit will be the first official outing of Bola Tinubu as Nigerian President since he resumed office 23 days ago.
Joining on the trip are members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and they are expected to return to the country on Saturday.
