FCT, Abuja - Amid the scrabble for the leadership of the incoming 10th National Assembly, a fresh twist has emerged as governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have made public their recommendation for the zoning of leadership.
Reports by Premium Times revealed that the recommendation was meant for the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It was gathered that the governors under the aegis of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) held a meeting on Saturday, April 8, to resolve the zoning formula for the Senate Presidency and the Speakership of the House of Representatives.

Legit.ng gathered that after the meeting, a memo was released by the PGF, which contains the recommendation for the zoning pattern for the Senate Presidency and Speakership.

Below is the zoning formula:
a. Senate President – South-East or South-South or North-Central
b. Deputy Senate President – North-Central or North-West
c. Speaker of the House – North-Central or North-West
d. Deputy Speaker of the House – South-East or South-South
As mentioned in the memo, other principal positions should be allotted as compensation to candidates who might have stepped down their ambition for the top seat in the House of Assembly.
These positions were outlined as follows:
a. Majority Leader
b. Deputy Majority Leader
c. Chief Whip, and
d. Deputy Chief Whip
A gentlemanly agreement was reached to put forward the memo duly signed by the PGF Chairman and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, to Tinubu for expedited action.
Reports also revealed that it had yet to be confirmed if the memo had gotten to the president-elect or if he had assented.

Similarly, the Senate President seat is on course to be a tight race as the list of aspirants is filled with influential names.
Sources have confirmed that the position of Senate President is expected to be zoned to the south-south region.
However, another source revealed that the selection of the new Senate President is subject to the discretion of the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
