Kogi, Lokoja - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Kogi state has declared Senator Dino Melaye as its gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming governorship polls.
As reported by Daily Trust, Senator Melaye was declared the winner after polling 313 votes at the party primaries held at the Kafa’s Hall event centre in Lokoja, the state capital.
The PDP primary election committee chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, announced Senator Melaye’s victory.
How Dino's opponents fared
According to Senator Makarfi, Ilona Idoko Kingsley emerged as first runner-up, polling 124; Usman Mohammed Kabiru polled 121 votes in third place, while Abayomi Sunday Awoniyi, a former deputy, was distant fourth with 77 votes.

Other aspirants who participated included Wada Musa (56 votes), Ojaja Gideon Enama (5 votes) and Olufemi Olarewaju (2 votes), The Nation reported.
The electoral umpire revealed that only six votes were invalid during the keenly contested primary election.
The outcome of the PDP primary in Kogi state means Senator Melaye will slug it out at polls with his counterpart Alhaji Usman Ododo of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

In another development, the Kogi state assembly majority leader, Alhaji Murktar Bajeh, on Wednesday, April 12, stepped down from his position.

Bajeh, in a letter addressed to the House, resigned in protest of being called a terrorist by the governor.
