Port Harcourt, Rivers - Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has revealed how the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar humiliated former president Goodluck Jonathan’s pleas to change their mind about leaving the party in 2023
Also included in Atiku’s team then were ex-senate president Bukola Saraki and Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tamuwal.
Why did Jonathan fail in 2015 election?
Wike said they rebuffed Jonathan after the 2014 convention as they insisted it was the north's turn.
According to Wike, the PDP constitution contained the provisions for zoning of elective and party provisions but decried that some people are manipulating the system with all their might.
He said:

“There shall be zoning of party and elective offices. It is clear. Not ambiguous. But people will always try to manipulate the system to suit them.”
How did Atiku halt Jonathan's ambition in 2015?
Wike said Atiku and his co-conspirators cooked stories to deceive the public, stating that the PDP founding fathers understood the country's complexity and created a constitution allowing inclusiveness.
“People should not forget history. In 2013 and 2014, there was an issue of the presidential candidate. Jonathan emerged. Atiku and others worked out of the convention. Tambuwal and former Senate President all worked out.
“Jonathan did everything to talk to them. But they rebuffed him as a sitting President. President travelled to London to see Atiku, but he rebuffed him. Former Governor Babangida Aliyu admitted that they all agreed to work against Jonathan”.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Karma is set to hunt the PDP and key stakeholders over their failure to honour the call for southern presidency come 2023.
The largest opposition, which is supposed to have built on the weakness of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration on security and inflation, decided to present a northern candidate against the nationalistic view.
The party had claimed that the south enjoyed more power than the north in its 16 years of rule, but nationalistically, many southerners believe power should not stay in the north after 8 years of Buhari.
