It’s Official: APC Seals Muslim-Muslim Ticket, As Tinubu Unveils Shettima As Running Mate

FCT, Abuja - The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu have officially unveiled Senator Kashim Shettima as the party's vice-presidential candidate heading into the 2023 general elections.

Shettima's unveiling was held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, on Wednesday, July 20, The Punch reported.

As gathered by Legit.ng, the ceremony was attended by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state.

Others present at the unveiling include Iyiola Omisore, the national secretary of APC, and a host of other important guests.

This was coming barely two weeks after the national leader of the party picked the lawmaker as his vice-presidential candidate.

Outcry over Shettima's selection by Tinubu

It will be recalled that Shettima's selection some few weeks back led to a major outcry from some of the party members, pressure groups, religious societies and other stakeholders.

Most notably, religious leaders and religious groups like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) vehemently opposed the move.

Similarly, Legit.ng reported that some top party members across the federation also withdrew their membership from the party accusing Tinubu of being undemocratic with his decision.

Senator Ishaku Abbo who is representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in Adamawa State withdrew his membership from the campaign organizing team of the APC stalwart.

Nollywood icon and lawyer, Kenneth Okonkwo also followed suit.

As another prominent member in Rivers State Mr Tonye Princewill, a loyalist of ex-governor Rotimi Amaechi also resigned his membership from the party.

Legal practitioner and politician, Daniel Bwala joined the pack of those who disagrees with the decision of Tinubu.

A tweet from him reads:

"Tonight I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCNg on principles and conviction that I hold so dear. At this time of our national existence, our efforts and energy should gravitate towards uniting our people."

2023: VP Osinbajo clashes with APC, Tinubu over Muslim-Muslim ticket

Similarly, reports have it that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is not pleased with the Muslim-Muslim ticket arrangement.

It was gathered that Osinbajo engaged in a heated clash with the APC and Bola Tinubu.

Sources privy to the incident revealed that the vice president vehemently condemned the idea.

Babachir Lawal, Kenneth Okonkwo knocks at APC's choice of Muslim-Muslim ticket

In another report by Legit.ng, a Nollywood veteran actor who also doubles as a politician/lawyer, Kenneth Okonkwo declared officially not to be in alliance with the APC.

He said his decision was in the interest of equity, justice, fairness and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.

He said:

"May God deliver Nigeria from the hands of power grabbers who elevate the quest for power above the quest for purpose. God bless you and Barka da Sallah to our Muslim brothers."
