Nigerian Governor Declares Friday June 24 Work-Free, Gives Reason
- Civil servants in Osun state have been directed to stay off work on Friday, June 23, in order to collect their PVCs
- The Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, made this disclosure in a statement released on Thursday, June 23
- The state government took the step ahead of the governorship election which is scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 16

Osogbo, Osun state - The Osun state Government has declared Friday, June 24, as a work-free day to enable civil servants that have not collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so.
A statement signed and released on Thursday, June 23, by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, harped on the importance of the PVC to the performance of their civic responsibility.
The state government said it did not want people to miss out on the opportunity of exercising their constitutional right of participating in the July 16 governorship poll.
The statement read in part:

“The Government of Osun State acknowledges the importance of workers in the democratic process, and is aware that the only way workers can give life to their aspiration for a worker-friendly government is through their votes.
“Consequently, Friday, June 24, has been declared a work-free day in all government offices across the state, to enable all public and civil servants pick their PVC so they can perform their civic duty.”
PDP members defect to APC ahead of Osun governorship election
Meanwhile, with the Osun election fast approaching, some key members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was gathered that over 500 supporters of the opposition party from the Boripe local government area of Osun state joined the APC.
A statement by the chief press secretary to the governor, Ismail Omipidan, said that the defectors were received into the ruling party at a campaign rally held in Iragbiji, the hometown of Osun state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Osun 2022: Oyetola makes strong allegation against Adeleke
In another related development, the governor of Osun state, Gboyega Oyetola has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Ademola Adeleke.
Oyetola said Adeleke has openly declared an intention to induce voters in the Osun state governorship poll scheduled for July 16.
The call to probe Adeleke, who is the governorship candidate of the PDP was made on Monday, June 20 by the DG of the Oyetola Campaign Committee, Ajibola Basiru.
