2023 Polls: INEC Gives APC, PDP, Others Deadline for Submission of Presidential Candidates, Running Mates
- Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued fresh updates
- The electoral body says its portal will be closed on Friday, June 17 for the submission of presidential aspirants and running mates' details
- However, for governorship and House of Assembly elections, the list of candidates shall be uploaded from 1st to 15th July 2022

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says all political parties must submit names and details of their presidential aspirants and running mates on or before 6 pm on Friday, June 17, The Nation reported.
As gathered by Legit.ng, INEC disclosed that all names should be submitted to the authorized portal dedicated for that purpose.
The electoral commission also noted that the portal will be shut down on the same day of the closure a minute after the stipulated 6 pm.

However, for governorship and House of Assembly elections, the list of candidates shall be uploaded from 1st to 15th July 2022.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, gave the hint at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja on Thursday.
The Commission stressed further that only names of candidates that emerged from democratic primaries as provided by Sec. 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 shall be submitted.
Yakubu said:
“All political parties are required to upload the details of their candidates for each constituency to the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal (ICNP). To achieve this objective, four officials recommended by each of the 18 political parties were trained on the procedure for uploading the nomination forms to the dedicated web portal.
“Confidential Access Codes to the portal have already been given to each Political Party to facilitate the uploading of its nominations.
“For emphasis, the Commission wishes to remind Political Parties that only the names of candidates that emerged from democratic primaries as provided by Sec. 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 shall be submitted to the Commission."
INEC releases guidelines for 2023 general elections
In another development, Nigeria's electoral body, INEC has released an important guide needed for the 2023 general elections.
The INEC chairman who confirmed this development noted that the commission has finally all that is required for the successful conduct of the polls.
Earlier, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, nine months before the forthcoming general election issued a strong warning to political parties, aspirants and key players in the polity urging them to abide by the commission's rules and regulations for the exercise.
Disqualify any aspirant that fails to show up for debate - Timi Dakolo tells INEC
Meanwhile, Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has called on INEC to organise a debate for presidential aspirants ahead of the 2023 elections.
Timi Dakolo urged the Nigerian electoral body to disqualify any of the presidential aspirants who fails to show up for the debate.
The singer said Nigerians were tired of assuming the aspirants know what to do as the debate would serve as an avenue to hear from them.
