Mr Saraki verbally lashed Mr Adamu while reacting to statements allegedly made by Mr Adamu.
Mr Adamu had allegedly accused the Senate President of calling a senator, Dino Melaye, a “clown” in a private chat with him. Mr Saraki alleged that Mr Adamu made the statement “in an interview with a national newspaper."
Although the newspaper could not confirm if Mr Adamu indeed issued the statement, efforts to get Mr Adamu to deny or confirm this were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls put across to him.
Saraki speaks
In a statement signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Mr Saraki said he could not have referred to Mr Melaye as a clown, “knowing that from available records, Senator Melaye has so far outshined and has performed better than Senator Abdullahi in terms of the number of bills sponsored, motion raised and contributions to debate on the floor.”
He said:
“Clearly, Adamu’s seven years cannot be compared to Senator Melaye’s three years. Senator Adamu is free to challenge this assertion by showing his records."
Meanwhile, on Saturday, March 26, the APC held its national convention and Adamu being President Muhammadu Buhari’s preferred candidate emerged as the national chairman through a consensus but the duo, Saraki and Adamu have not been on good terms in the past and the assertion above was made before Adamu emerged chairman of the ruling party.
