Aso Rock, Abuja - Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has denied reports that he plans to declare his intention to run for president ahead of the 2023 elections after the All Progressives Congress Convention slated for February 26, 2021.

Earlier on Monday, February 7, there were reports that Osinbajo would announce his presidential bid for 2023.

However, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said the report is false and speculative.

He added that any information on the action of the Vice President would come directly from his office and not the press.

Laolu tweeted late Monday:

“I’ve seen “news” that VP’ll announce presidential bid after APC’s convention. Anyone reading the story‘ll know it’s all false and speculative snippets.
“Any information on activities and actions of the VP will come directly from his office and not sponsored speculations in the press.”

Tinubu addresses Yemi Osinbajo's alleged interest in 2023 presidency

Meanwhile, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declined comment on the alleged presidential ambition of Vice President Osinbajo.

On Monday, January, 10, the former governor of Lagos state told newsmen that he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari about his intention to run for president in 2023. Tinubu made the disclosure shortly after a closed door meeting with the president.

Asked to speak on the speculations that Osinbajo may also vie for the ticket, Tinubu declined to make any comment. The APC national leader said he would rather not discuss any individual.

In another report, a group known as the Progressives Opinion Leaders Group (POLG) has urged Osinbajo to contest the 2023 presidential election, saying he was a patriotic and detribalised Nigerian who will commit himself to work for the nation’s growth and development.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to a national newspaper headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, January 6, the national coordinator of the group, Shettima Abba Gana, said Nigeria must move forward.

Gana said Nigerians deserved a leader that could consolidate on the gains of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
