2023 Election: Governor Wike Reveals How His Successor Would Be Chosen

The governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, has said that he will ensure that whoever succeeds him as governor of the state will defend the interest of the people.

Wike while speaking at his 58th birthday party organised by his wife, Justice Eberechi Nyesom-Wike said he had directed elders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to begin the search for his successor.

The Punch reports that Wike said the elders and leaders of the PDP have been mandated to ensure that they chose someone who has the capacity and passion to defend the people of Rivers state.

He also said that his 58th birthday is dedicated to finding a suitable governorship candidate for Rivers state at the 2023 general election.

Wike appreciates God and his associates

Also thanking God for a fruitful and eventful life, Wike appreciated the governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Finitri, Oyo state governor's wife, Tamunominni Makinde, and other dignitaries for gracing the occasion.

PM News also reports that the governor urged the people of Rivers state to continue to seek God's face and pray for His grace in the state and in the lives of the people.

Also speaking, Wike's wife showered eulogies on her husband. She thanked God for his steadfast love towards the governor.

Wike highlights challenges PDP will face in selecting a 2023 presidential candidate

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Wike, on Thursday, December 2, said that the selection of a presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2023 election would be turbulent.

In other news, Wike had announced the sack of one of his commissioners, Professor Princewill Chike.

The Rivers state governor announced Chike's sack on Monday, December 13, at the State Executive Council Chambers.

The commissioner for health was sacked for not seeking the state government’s approval to host a conference.
