Zamfara APC Crisis Takes New Turn as Ex-commissioner Sahabi-Liman Dumps Yari For Matawalle

Zamfara state- The former commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning under the administration of Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, Honourable Kabiru Sahabi Liman Kaura has joined Governor Bello Matawalle-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

PM News reports that Sahabi-Liman, who was appointed as commissioner during the tenure of Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari as governor of Zamfara state, announced his decision on Monday, December 13.

He announced the decision via a statement by the Matawalle-led faction’s publicity secretary, Yusuf Idris.

His reasons

Idris quoted Sahabi-Liman saying that he joined Matawalle’s faction because the political tsunami was fast consuming Yari’s political camp.

The statement said:

“Sahabi-Liman was a senatorial aspirant in the 2019 general election under Yari’s camp.
“The former commissioner announced his decision to dump his former boss, when he paid a solidarity visit to the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani at the party Secretariat.”

APC chairman's position

He said the state APC chairman, Tukur Danfulani while receiving the former commissioner commended him for making the ‘bold and right decision’.

Danfulani added that APC, under Matawalle’s leadership had ‘rebranded’ and accommodated all party members irrespective of their social standing.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that amid the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, a parallel caretaker committee of Nigeria's ruling party has emerged in Abuja.

It was reported that the forum operating under the platform of the Progressive Youth Movement (PYM) announced Mustapha Audu as the chairman of the new caretaker team.

It was gathered that Mustapha is the son of the former governor of Kogi and a late chieftain of the party, Prince Abubakar Audu.

Prominent Zamfara indigene lampoons Matawalle's leadership style

In a related development, Suleman Tukura, a public affairs commentator based in Samaru, Gusau, the Zamfara capital, has lamented over the leadership style of Governor Matawalle.

In an opinion piece sent to Legit.ng, Tukura stated that:

“The governor obviously has no strategy; he is neither here nor there; he has no time to meet with his appointees to discuss issues of concerns to the state and the way forward.”
