FG Urges Western Allies To Declare Bandits, Boko Haram, IPOB As Terrorists

FCT, Abuja - A call has gone out from the federal government to western alies on the need to declare a bandits as well as Islamic sect, Boko Haram as terrorists.

ThisDay reports that the federal government on Sunday, December 12, urged the western allies to declare bandits, Boko Haram and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as terrorists.

Legit.ng gathered that the call was made in a statement issued by President Buhari's senior special assistant on media and publicity, Shehu Garba, noted that this declaration would reduce the funds allocated to the groups.

Commenting on the country's insecurity issues, he said he was doing all within his powers to put an end to the killings throughout the country.

Garba Shehu made the declaration while reacting to the feature by Daily Trust Newspaper titled: " Life Has Lost Its Value Under Buhari’s Nigeria.”

The federal government had declared Boko Haram and IPOB as terrorist organizations and eventually got a Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Taiwo to also declare Bandits as terrorists.

Western allies must partner with Nigeria in areas of trade and investment

In a bid to reduce the activities of these terrorists groups, the presidential spokesman stated that the west should partner Nigeria in areas of trade and investment to reduce unemployment rate and also prevent these violent groups from recruiting more people.

He noted that the economic instability that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic enabled the terrorist groups to recruit a higher population of people.

Presidency says government is doing its best to stop killings

Shehu explained that the government is tirelessly battling to put a stop to the killings in the country as it will console the family members and loved ones of those already lost.

He argued that in terms of violence and killings, Nigeria isn't unique as the rate of violence and killings has also increased in other African countries and even across the continent.

ISWAP abducts unknown number of persons

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) abducted an unknown number of passengers along the Damaturu/Maiduguri expressway.

This followed earlier reports of abduction and killings in the northern region of the country which has for a while now become a daily occurrence.

According to the report, the commuters were traveling to Maiduguri from Damaturu when they were intercepted some few kilometers after Benishiek town.
