President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to decide on whether to assent or veto the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021, contrary to speculations.
Leadership reported that Hon Umar El-Yakub, the senior special assistant to the president on National Assembly Matters (House of Reps), confirmed this.
El-Yakub noted that the communications between the president and the National Assembly is not a secret affair.
He said such communication would have been read on the floor of the parliament.

Corroborating El-Yakub's statement, the Senate spokesman, Basiru Ajibola, said the Red Chamber was yet to receive any communication from President Buhari regarding the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
A report by Daily Sun had claimed that the president rejected the bill and asked for the removal of indirect primaries from it.
Electoral bill: Buhari making consultations
Similarly, the presidency had earlier dismissed speculations that President Buhari declined assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
Responding exclusively to an enquiry from The Nation, the president's senior special assistant on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said there is no cause for alarm as Buhari is still consulting widely on whether or not to give his nod to the amended law.
Following its passage, the National Assembly transmitted the Electoral Bill to President Buhari on November 19.
Lawmakers ready to override Buhari’s veto
Meanwhile, some members of the National Assembly have vowed to take action if President Buhari decides not to give his approval to the Electoral Act.
A senator who spoke on condition of anonymity said that they had met and resolved to overrule Buhari if he declines to sign the bill.
“So, for the interest of Nigerians and the electoral process, if the president did not sign the bill, we would veto his assent," the senator said.
