Not Too Young To Run Movement Commences Convergence 3.0 Event for Young Aspirants

Yiaga Africa and the Not Too Young To Run movement have commenced the third edition of The Convergence.

The Convergence 3.0 which is reported to be the largest gathering of young people running for elective office in the 2023 elections in the southwest region of Nigeria commenced in Lagos with some notable speakers from around the country.

The aim of the Convergence is set to be achieved through keynote speeches, masterclasses, plenary sessions, political fairs, and clinics which features experts drawn from academia, civil society, professional bodies, relevant tiers of government, political parties, and the diplomatic corps.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Samson Itodo, executive director of Yiaga Africa said the idea behind the Convergeance is about reclaiming the state, "replacing the poor leadership we see at different parts of Nigeria with a new set of leaders who are capable of driving reforms and providing the promise of democracy."

He consequently praised all the young aspirants at the event for standing up to be counted and representing their people by providing the good governance that Nigerians deserve.

Also speaking at the event was Honorable Debo Ogundoyin, the current speaker of the Ninth Oyo state House of Assembly and member representing Ibarapa east constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The 34-year-old speaker told the young aspirants that YIAGA is there to equip them with technical know how and experiences of others who have been there before. He equally appreciated the organisation for being part of the Not To Young To Run Bill.

On her part, British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing, praised Yiaga Africa, disclosing that it was one of the first civil organization she consulted when she was posted to Nigeria from Zimbabwe.

Laing who urged the aspirants to encourage their people to come out and vote, called on Nigerian political parties to take the youths very seriously.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that Yiaga Africa and the Not Too Young To Run movement announced the third edition of The Convergence.

Legit.ng gathered that The Convergence 3.0 is the largest gathering of young people running for elective office in the 2023 elections in the southwest region of Nigeria.

The organisers say the aim of the event is to prepare them to run successfully in the next general elections.
