Lagos - At the book launch of Chief Bisi Akande held in Lagos state on Thursday, December 9, President Muhammadu Buhari made some stunning revelations about the political journey of the former Osun governor.
President Buhari, describing the former interim chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a perfect public officer, noted that the politician is the type of person he can venture into the jungle with, PM News reports.
The Nigerian leader also recalled that Akande was one of the victims of what he called a diabolical double-cross perpetrated by Olusegun Obasanjo.
Buhari noted that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former Lagos governor, was lucky enough to escape the antics of the erstwhile president.

Speaking further, the president disclosed that Akande, whose gubernatorial career was cut short by Obasanjo, did much to sanitise Osun while in office despite inheriting huge debts in form of unpaid workers' salaries and a lean state treasury, Nigerian Tribune added.
He said:
“It is common knowledge that Akande was the victim – along with other AD Governors – of a diabolical double-cross which ended his gubernatorial career. Only the steadfast Asiwaju Bola Tinubu escaped the electoral massacre masterminded by President Obasanjo.
”Desperately disappointed though he was, and being a good Muslim, he accepted this setback as part of the trials of life. He looked to the future of service to the country.
”Neither he, nor I, nor many of our friends and associates gave up as, in Chief Akande’s words: “the country was going down and down under PDP.
”He was always in the thick of things through the difficulties and political discontinuities of the 1980s and 90s."
