Governor Wike Appears in Court, Testifies Against National Daily in N7b Libel Suit

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has appeared before the state High Court in Port Harcourt, to testify in an N7 billion libel suit against a national newspaper.
According to the governor, he was in court to seek justice and clear his name as a person from the malicious publication by the newspaper, Guardian Newspaper reports.
He lamented that the news outlet portrayed him as a deceitful, untrustworthy person, who exerts subterranean influences on judicial matters and over court sittings in Port Harcourt.
Wike who testified as a witness in Suit No. PHC/1505/CS/2020 before the court presided over by Justice A. Enebeli, insisted that he was maliciously and falsely portrayed him as an unreliable friend/person.

He said:
“When you say somebody cannot be trusted; that cannot be a fair comment. When you say somebody is influencing the judiciary, that cannot be a fair comment."
He stated that the defendants maliciously accused him of undemocratically exerting influence on the primaries process of PDP in Edo State in aid of his ally, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who was the beneficiary of the court order restraining Obaseki from participating in the PDP primaries.
In another report, a group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), PDP Renaissance Movement, has called on Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike to run for president in 2023.
The group, made up of serving members of the Cross River state House of Assembly and former commissioners who refused to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with Governor Ben Ayade, said that Nigeria needs somebody like Wike with a vision and mission to turn the economy around.
Addressing reporters on Tuesday, November 9 in Calabar, one of the leaders of the group, Gab Odu Oji, said the country needs total revival in all sectors, adding that Wike has character and content that qualifies him to be Nigeria's number one citizen.
2023: Women Support Group Declares Support for Chibuike Amaechi
In a related development, a women support group, Coalition for Progress and Continuity (CPC), led by Princess Sandra Onoja has declared support for Wike's predecessor and minister for transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as the next president of the country.
The women group stated that Amaechi has extensive experience as a legislator, state governor, and federal minister.
According to the group, the positions occupied by Amaechi in the past and at present has sufficiently equipped him for the challenges ahead as a president.
