APC Senator Opens Up on Meeting With Bukola Saraki, Yari

  • Senator Kabir Marafa has reacted to the claim that he is being wooed to decamp from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party
  • The former lawmaker said he only accompanied former Senate president Bukola Saraki to a wedding in Kaduna

Insinuations have continued to swell over the meeting between a former Senate president, Bukola Saraki, Senator Kabir Marafa (APC, Zamfara state) and former governor Abdulaziz Yari.

The Punch reports that Senator Marafa has decided to make public the purpose of the meeting between himself, Saraki and Yari which has continued to stir conversations.

Speaking on Saturday, November 27, Marafa, who is a factional leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said he will remain in the party despite all efforts to frustrate him.

Reacting to insinuations that his meeting with Saraki and Yari was aimed at wooing him into joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Marafa said such was not discussed between him and the former Senate president.

To buttress his claim, Marafa said he met with Saraki in the company of former governor Yari because the former Senate president was attending a wedding in Kaduna and had called him (Marafa) to join him.

He added that Saraki had asked him to join him for the wedding in Kaduna knowing that he is based in the city.

Marafa said:

“We actually flew into Kaduna together because I was in Abuja when he called me."
“The former Senate president was my boss. He wanted me to accompany him to the wedding organised by a spiritual leader."
“The cleric gave out his daughter in marriage yesterday (Friday), and he invited Saraki and Yari, but I was not invited.”

Marafa reacts to the claim of being wooed to the PDP by Saraki

Noting that he cannot be wooed to join the PDP, Marafa said if he wanted to defect to any party, he would do so without anybody's influence.

Further highlighting his accomplishment and contribution to the growth of the ruling party, Marafa said he is a critical stakeholder in the APC.

On Saturday, November 27, Vanguard reported that members of the APC in the thousands participated in a congress organised by the Marafa faction of the party.

The members were drawn from across 14 local government areas in Zamfara to elect members of the state's working committees.

The congress produced Alhaji Surajo Garba Maikatako as chairman, of the Zamfara state APC national working committee.

Fresh crisis hits Abdulaziz's Yari APC faction

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the APC was hit with a fresh crisis after former governor Yari's camp was split into two.

The camp of the former governor of Zamfara state collapsed in February 2021 with a faction led by Senator Marafa.

This followed the intervention of the presidency in the crisis which had rocked the Zamfara APC chapter for three years.

Zamfara emirate signs peace deal with a notorious criminal

In other news, the Zamfara emirate council had signed a peace deal with a notorious criminal kingpin in the state.

The deal with Ali Kachalla was signed to ensure that the growing spate of kidnapping and banditry in the state is curbed.

While making this public, the Wazirin Dansadau, Alhaji Mustapha Umar, has said peace is gradually returning to Dansadau Emirate after a peace pact with Kachalla.
