The elder statesman said:
“He (Tinubu) just came to visit me but actually I have two of them (presidential aspirants) that I have earmarked right from the beginning and I made a vow that any one of them who came to ask for my support first is the person I would support. Tinubu is the first person.”
Though Tinubu is yet to officially declare his intention to contest any office posters and billboards advertising the rumoured presidential bid have been spotted in major cities in Nigeria.
Yakasai also confirmed that the APC national leader told him he would be contesting for president and asked for his support.
Why Tinubu must run for president in 2023
Legit.ng previously reported that a pro-Tinubu group, Youths Earnestly Ask for Tinubu (YEAT), threw its weight behind the APC leader as a potential candidate for president in 2023.
It was reported that YEAT national president, Nimjul Nansak Pennap, who spoke to reporters in Jos, the Plateau state capital on Thursday, November 18, said that the group will campaign across Nigeria to drum support for Tinubu to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
He said that Tinubu has what it takes to sustain the strides of President Buhari in tackling insecurity, corruption and making life better for the average Nigerian.
Northern gov's ex-aide lists 3 southwest politicians who can win if chosen as APC's candidate
In a related development, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a former media aide to Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, says the potential presidential candidate of the APC is in the southwest geopolitical zone, not in the southeast.
The former media aide claimed the southeast zone does not have the political number and candidate with national appeal and weight to pull votes across the country in the forthcoming elections.
Yakasai stated this on Friday, September 24, when he appeared as a guest on Arise TV. He was sacked earlier in 2021 for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over the rising security threats in the country.
