EFCC Watch List: Obiano Confirms Plans to Relocate to US After his Tenure

Amid reports of being placed on a watchlist by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Governor Willie Obiano has replied the anti-graft agency.

Daily Trust reports that the Anambra state governor said after his tenure he will be relocating to his base in the Unites States.

According to Anambra state commissioner for information and public enlightenment, Don Adinuba, said Obiano made his relocation plans to his US base public.

He said:

"Chief Obiano has never left any persons in doubt that he will relocate to his base in the United States once he finishes his tenure. As early as Wednesday, March 4, 2020, he announced his decision to a meeting of the Anambra State Council of Elders."

Adinuba in reaction to EFCC's list accused the commission of acting a script, adding that it went to far publicly announcing an investigation, Independent Newspaper reports.

the commissioner went on to note that the directive of the EFCC was not just a new low but that everything was wrong in the statement he described as politically motivated.

Governor Obiano on EFCC's watchlist four months to leaving office

Recall that Governor Obiano has been reportedly placed on a watchlist by the EFCC.

It was gathered that the EFCC had written to the NIS CG to keep the agency be informed whenever Obiano attempts travelling out of the country,.

However, Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for the EFCC, said he had not briefed on the development.

According to an earlier report by Legit.ng, the Anambra state government described the report in the media as sponsored.

Further reacting to the news of the governor's travel itinerary, Adinubu said Governor Obiano is out of Nigeria at the moment.

He said the governor also left the country through one of Nigeria's international airports and did not disguise himself as widely reported.
