Ekiti South Political Stakeholders Call for Emergency Meeting Over Alleged Marginalisation

  • With the next governorship election in Ekiti barely 8 months away, the south senatorial district of the state has called an emergency meeting
  • Influential personalities from the district are expected to immediately converge to chart a course forward
  • Political watchers in the state say the move is geared towards mitigating against any form of marginalisation

Ekiti - Stakeholders in Ekiti south senatorial district have called for an emergency meeting by prominent personalities in the area.

A copy of the invitation seen by Legit.ng noted that the meeting is urgent and critical for the future of the district.

The move is said to have been triggered by rumours of alleged marginalisation against the zone to produce the next Ekiti state governor.

“If indeed democracy is the consensus of the people, for the people and by the people, then the people of Ekiti south senatorial district must be resolute in seeing that the next meritorious governor of Ekiti state emerges from the south senatorial district of Ekiti state.
“We, therefore, call on our traditional rulers, elder statesmen, stalwarts, party faithful, political appointees (serving and non-serving), sons and daughters to firmly resist any kind of imposition across all political parties and to stand and be counted where it matters most.
“The conference of all indigenes of the south senatorial district of Ekiti state is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 1st of December 2021, at Eagle Hall, Ado-Ikere road, Ekiti.
“The short history of democracy in Ekiti state, though has not been without challenges, has been remarkable so far with high points such as Governor Fayemi’s tribunal victory.

“It is on the premise of this and many other benefits of democracy which has been conferred on the present governor that we express dissatisfaction over his conduct in signalling that he will be succeeded in office by his beloved servant Abiodun Oyebanji who also hails from Ekiti central senatorial district.
“Whilst we do not know where the other parties including PDP are going to pick their candidate from, we thought it would be nice to sound this note of warning before any of their primaries.
“We also call on all eligible and interested sons and daughters of Ekiti state south senatorial district to go out and pick a form from their respective parties and not shy away from this clarion call.”

Meanwhile, in Ondo, the Yoruba Youth Indigenous Movement has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state of propagating a hidden agenda targeted at undermining the operations of the Southwest Security Network, codenamed Amotekun for political gains.

The coordinator of the group, Lawal Adekola made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Akure, the state capital.

He alleged that the PDP through former governor Olusegun Mimiko has negotiated plans to discredit Amotekun and ensure its operations are weakened.

Gunmen Attack Rauf Aregbesola’s Campaign Office in Osogbo

In Osun, armed men on Thursday, November 18 attacked the campaign office of the minister of interior and former governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The attack occurred during a meeting of the minister's supporters in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.

The attackers, numbering about five, stormed Aregbesola’s campaign office known as Oranmiyan House at Gbodofon area and caused panic in the area.
