APC Governors Finally Share Update on Party's National Convention

  • APC has hinted that President Muhammadu Buhari could fix the date for the party's much awaited national convention
  • This was made known after governors elected on the platform of the APC under the aegis of Progressives Governors Forum met on Sunday, November 21
  • The chairman of the PGF, Governor Abubakar Bagudu maintained that the date for the national convention was beyond the governors

Abuja - Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have indicated that President Muhammadu Buhari will determine when the party's National Convention will hold.

The Nation reports that the governors under the auspices of Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) made this known on Sunday night, November 21, in Abuja after it held a crucial meeting behind closed doors.

Almost all 20 APC governors attended the meeting which was held at the Kebbi State Governors Lodge Asokoro, Abuja at about 9:20 pm.

A source at the governors’ meeting revealed that Buhari would be given the honor of fixing the date for the convention as the leader of the party as many things are to be considered

Governor Abubakar Bagudu, the chairman of the forum noted that that the forum will seek an appointment with Buhari to discuss upcoming convention, Nigerian Tribune added.

The Kebbi state governor maintained that the date for the national convention was beyond the governors as he noted that the forum was just one organ of the party.

Bagudu further revealed that the governors took a position to meet with President Buhari whom he noted could give direction for when and how the national convention could be conducted.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that reactions trailed the just concluded state congresses of the ruling APC in 20 states on Saturday, October 16.

Although the outcome of the event was crisis-ridden, some members have expressed disappointment with the happenings that characterised the congress.

The crisis caused by parallel state congresses of the APC may stall the party’s national convention scheduled for December.

Meanwhile, Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa has reacted to the APC congresses that were held at short notice in Zamfara state.

Marafa, a former senator representing Zamfara central, said the chairman of the APC national caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni, is on a mission to “kill” the party.

It was gathered that parallel congresses took place in Zamfara, one by a faction loyal to Governor Bello Matawalle while Marafa’s faction conducted another one.
