Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Congratulates Iyorchia Ayu at 69

Asaba - Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has congratulated the national chairman-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, on his 69th birth anniversary.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng by his spokesman, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, Okowa said Ayu as an astute politician, had etched his name in gold with his outstanding service to the nation in various offices he had occupied.

He commended the new PDP boss for his contributions to the growth and development of the party and democracy in Nigeria, adding that with Ayu steering the ship, Nigeria would berth at desired shores in 2023.

Okowa recalled that Ayu played a significant role in stabilising democracy in the country when he served as President of the Senate in the Third Republic and later in various ministerial positions in former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration between 1999 and 2007.

According to him, Ayu deserves all the accolades as he is set to lead the PDP on a rescue mission to save Nigeria – people, democracy, and economy.

“Your Excellency, our incoming national chairman, you have played significant roles in the growth and development of the nation as a former President of the Senate and we can't thank you enough for your great achievements.
“On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Delta, I congratulate you as you celebrate your 69th birth anniversary.
“Over the years, you have devoted yourself to the course of peace and development of our party and our country. For this, we owe you an enduring debt of gratitude.

Electronic Transmission of Results, Victory for Democracy, Says Gov Okowa

Meanwhile, Governor Okowa has said the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 by the National Assembly, empowering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to electronically transmit election results is a victory for democracy.

The governor, in a statement sent to Legit.ng by his spokesman, Olisa Ifeajika, lauded the Senate for hearkening to the wish of Nigerians by reversing itself and voted to include electronic transmission of results in the amendment of the electoral law.

Okowa, who was among prominent Nigerians that chided the Senate for rejecting the move earlier, reminded the lawmakers that as representatives of the people, they always act in the interest of generality of Nigerians.

Wike speaks on electronic transmission of results

Similarly, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has expressed deep satisfaction with the power given to INEC to transmit election results electronically.

The governor said the electronic transmission of results is a laudable step and one that would put an end to electoral misconduct.

Wike stated further that it is a welcome development, noting that the process will eventually promote the nation’s electoral system.
