2022: Senator Olujimi, 8 other Women Join Ekiti Governorship Race

Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti- The call for women's participation in politics has yielded a positive response as Senator Biodun Olujimi, has decided to contest for the Ekiti state governorship election, slated for Saturday, June 18, 2022.

Olujimi, the Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District in the Senate, on Sunday, November 14, disclosed her interest to newsmen in a telephone conversation in Ado-Ekiti, is contesting under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Nation reports that Olujimi and eight other female aspirants are among the 17 people who have so far obtained nomination forms and had been screened by the PDP at the National Secretariat in Abuja.

Olujimi said her decision was borne out of the desire to salvage the state from the woods through selfless service to the people, irrespective of their social status, Vanguard also reported.

The lawmaker added that she decided to run following calls from stakeholders, including the downtrodden, traditional rulers and eminent sons and daughters of the state.

The Senator noted further that she possessed the quality and experience required to harness the vast state’s resources for productive and developmental purposes.

She said her political and public sector experiences have prepared her for the plum job.

Apart from Olujimi, Mrs Olumide Olubunmi from Ido/Osi Council Areas of the state, Mrs Arogundade Olutoyin from Ekiti East Local Government, and Princess Adekemi Adewunmi from Efon Local Government area, Mrs Cecillia Ebiesuwa (Emure council), Mrs Adewumi Adesoye (Ado), Mrs Titilayo Owolabi Akerele (Ikole), Mrs Modupe Asaolu (Ekiti south-west) and Mrs Deborah Alo ( Ido/Osi), have indicated an interest in the race.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that a former senator Dayo Adeyeye and national chairman of the Southwest Agenda for Tinubu (SWAGA), Senator Dayo Adeyeye, has explained how Governor Kayode Fayemi's successor would emerge in 2022.

It was reported that he expressed optimism the next Ekiti governor would emerge from the political camp of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Legit.ng gathered that Adeyeye said SWAGA, a political group within the All Progressives Congress(APC), was fast gaining wider acceptability among the people of the state beyond partisan lines few months after its inauguration.
