Court Sacks APC Candidate, Reinstates PDP Chieftain as LGA Chairman in Northern State
- The opposition PDP has won a legal battle against the APC in Langtang North local government area of Plateau state
- The Plateau state high court reinstated PDP's Joshua Laven as the chairman of Langtang North LGA and ordered APC's Zulfa Bitrus Rimven to vacate the seat
- Rimven was sacked on the ground that Laven had not completed his tenure and the state's electoral commission should not have conducted another election to replace him

Jos, Plateau state - The Plateau state high court sitting in Jos, the state capital, has reinstated Joshua Laven as the authentic executive chairman of Langtang North local government area.
Laven, who had one year left to the end of his tenure, was forced out of office after the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) conducted LGA elections in the state in October 2021, Leadership newspaper reported.

Legit.ng gathers that the court ruled that the tenure of the Lantang North LGA chairman will begin to count from the day he was sworn in as elected chairman.
Also reporting the development, The Nation stated that the court dismissed an appeal filed by Laven's challenger, Zulfa Bitrus Rimven of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the ground that the suit was without merit.

Rimven, a lawyer, had approached the court seeking an interpretation of an earlier judgment entered in Laven’s favour.
However, the judge held that a separate election conducted by PLASIEC for the Langtang North LGA council chair post, which Rimven won, was unnecessary, because, among others, the seat was never vacant.
He ordered Rimven to vacate the office with immediate effect for Laven.
APC suffers defeat as tribunal revokes party's victory, declares PDP winner
In a related development, the Appeal Tribunal in Lagos state has declared Mustapha Olanrewaju, as winner of the local government election in Oriade Ward A, Kirikiri, Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
The court declared the lawful candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the councillorship position.
Legit.ng gathered that the five-man tribunal headed by Justice Morenike Obadina also invalidated the certificate of return earlier issued to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Onyeahasi Omolabake.
