Anambra Election: APGA Chairman Hails Buhari, Describes Him As Father

Awka, Anambra - Following the outcome of the Saturday, November 6, Anambra governorship election, the chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Oye, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari.

Oye while commending the president for ensuring that the election in the state is credible said President Buhari has over time proven to be a father.

The Sun reports that Oye gave the commendation to the president while speaking in Awka, Anambra's capital city on Sunday, November 7.

Buhari, INEC's role in Anambra governorship election

He said the president did his best by allowing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have a free hand in the conduct of the state governorship election.

Oye said:

“President Muhammadu Buhari has always been a father by allowing INEC to conduct free, fair and credible elections in the country."
“He will also insist on allowing the people’s will to prevail and not the other way round."

How plans by many politicians were thwarted

Oye said that while it was the plan of some politicians to use their mercenaries, the president had always ensured that the will of the people prevailed.

He said:

“But he has always told them to allow the choice of the people to prevail; that is why APGA is winning the election."

The APGA chairman further commended the people of Anambra for the manner in which they conducted themselves during the polls.

Stating that Anambra people are known to be quite peaceful, Oye said most of the violent incidents recorded in the state were perpetrated by individuals or groups imported into the state.

Postponement of election in Ihiala LGA

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the collation officer for Ihiala local government area in Anambra state had announced that postponement of elections in the area.

The collation officer while speaking in Awka, Anambra's capital city said there were some cases of irregularities in the area which led to the postponement of the election in Ihiala.

He said a supplementary election will hold across Ihiala LGA on Tuesday, November 9.

Also, an official of INEC had confirmed reports of disruption of elections and snatching of ballot boxes in some polling units in Anambra.

The official said some thugs in the state had arrived some of the polling units shooting sporadically to scare voters away while carting with ballot boxes.

However, in reaction to the claims by the INEC official, the police in the state denied knowledge of any of such incident.
