Orumba North LGA saga

After hours of deliberation, the committee set up to look into the electoral malpractice alleged to have happened in Orumba North LGA, resolved to call for the BIVAS that were used “but was not achievable as high authority made it known to us the BIVAS were not available.”

A member of the committee goes on to read out areas where irregularities were observed in the LGA.

The Cable reported that the committee said it had to evaluate the results based on the documents presented before it.

The committee said it noted wrong computation; figures of accredited voters not tallying with the expected numbers.

Professor Obi asked the committee to read out the final results, but the committee asked if it should do this with or without the RAs where irregularities were noted.

Obi asked the committee to read out the final results, but the committee asked if it should do this with or without the RAs where irregularities were noted.

The committee also said its mandate was to investigate the alleged irregularities and not to compute the votes scored by each party in the LGA and will not take responsibility for the result.

Professor Obi deliberates for a few minutes and asked for the result. The result has been tendered to the returning officer.

Collation resumes

The returning officer, Professor Obi, says the results of the election in Orumba North will be re-collated at the INEC conference hall.

Party agents are allowed to observe the re-collation.

INEC officials go on 30-minute break

Professor Obi announces another 30-minute break.

She said:

"We’ve taken results from 19 LGAs out of 21. One, we will have to discuss, and one there was no election at all.”

The two LGAs are Orumba North and Ihiala LGA.

Orumba North LGA: Controversy over the entire election

Registered voters - 93,608

Accredited voters -

Dr Micheal Otu, collation officer for Orumba North LGA, begins by saying his experience on the field was pathetic but “I thank God I’m alive.” He says he signed the documents under duress.

“I signed the results, but I didn’t believe in the results,” the collation officer said.

He also accused INEC officials attached to him of conniving with those who disrupted the process. He said he was tear-gassed and almost collapsed.

The accused electoral officer replied:

“He has never had the experience of how to collate results. He does not know the difference between conducting elections and collation. When collation officers finished their work, this man spend two hours on each. This man does not know his left from the right."

APGA agent, Victor Umeh, says collation officer hired to destroy election

He accuses the collation officer of being “hired to destroy this election.” He said his party won the election in the LGA.
