Just in: Northern Governor Dissolves 21 Local Councils' Chairmen, Councillors

  • Kebbi state government on Thursday, November 4, dissolved the administration of the 21 local government councils

Birnin Kebbi - The entire 21 local government councils in Kebbi state were, on Thursday, November 4, dissolved by Governor Atiku Abubakar Bagudu.

Vanguard reports that the governor made the dissolution after hosting the outgoing chairmen at the government house in Birnin Kebbi.

The Kebbi state governor dissolved the local government’s chairmen and their councillors following the official expiration of their tenure which ended on Thursday, February 4.

Bagudu, in his speech, thanked the chairmen and councillors for diligently serving the state for the period they were elected. There was, however, no mention of who the outgoing officials would hand over to.

Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) has scheduled the state local government councils poll for February 5, 2022, The Guardian added.

Alhaji Aliyu Mera, the KESIEC chairman made the disclosure after a stakeholders’ meeting at the commission’s headquarters.

Kebbi state governor tells FG to declare bandits as terrorists

In a previous report by Legit.ng, the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari was urged to declare bandits in the country as terrorists.

Governor Bagudu made the appeal while responding to a question on if bandits should be declared terrorists by the Nigerian government.

Bagudu while speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today on Thursday, September 2, also said that anyone holding arms in an organised manner and terrorising people should be declared as a terrorist.

Meanwhile, twenty-eight students and two teachers of the Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri were released on Wednesday, October 20, by a notorious bandit, Dogo Gide, following days of waiting by relatives and officials.

The victims were abducted four months ago by gunmen who overpowered security men on guard at the school located in a remote part of Kebbi state.

Earlier, the release of the students was reported, following interviews with some parents who were set to reunite with the abductees. But it later emerged that the victims were not released as the process could not be perfected due to the inability of mediators to meet with the kingpin.
