Anambra: NBC Reads Riot Act to Broadcast Stations, Warns Against Compromising Content

With less than 24 hours to the Anambra election, broadcast stations have been warned against airing news content that could compromise the unity of the country.

The warning was issued in a statement signed by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Director-General, Balarabe Ilelah, on Thursday, November 4.

The statement titled, ‘Anambra Election: NBC warns against broadcasts that compromise the Unity of Nigeria’ was shared on NBC's official Facebook page.

Ilelah tasked all broadcasters covering the governorship election to follow the electoral guidelines provided in the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.

The statement further outlined guidelines which broadcasters are to follow, adding that defaulting media houses will be made to face the consequences of their actions.

Bishop Kukah sends important message to Anambra people

In a previous report by Legit.ng, the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev Bishop Matthew Kukah, challenged the people of Anambra state to take their destinies into their hands in making this weekend’s governorship election free, fair and credible.

Bishop Kukah, the convener, National Peace Committee, spoke on the sideline at the stakeholders meeting in Awka on Wednesday, November 3, emphasizing that the people of Anambra are homogeneous culturally and religious to allow the election to divide them.

He said:

“Anambra has no reason being divided. They are culturally homogeneous, predominantly or significantly Christians to the point of 80, 90 per cent. The issue of what God are to Anambra they ought to know better."

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the APC in Anambra state, Sam Nwosu, called on the people of the state to show their love to President Muhammadu Buhari at the forthcoming governorship election by ensuring the party wins.

It was reported that Nwosu said President Buhari's led administration has done well for the Anambra people and the southeast region as a whole and deserves to be rewarded.

He added that in terms of infrastructural development, the present administration has ensured that all regions benefit from projects.
