Anambra Election: APGA Faces Tough Challenge as Obiano's Top Aide Joins PDP

Nnewi South LGA, Anambra- Few days to the Saturday, November 6 governorship election in Anambra state, Chief Tommy Okoli, a special adviser to Governor Willie Obiano, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Nation reports that Okoli , who was a former governorship aspirant under the ruling All Progressives Alliance (APGA), announced his defection at a rally held on Thursday, November 4, in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.

The politician insists he made this move in a bid to support the candidature of Mr Valentine Ozigbo and his running mate, Mrs Azuka Enemo of the PDP in the election.

According to him, he is throwing his weight behind Ozigbo, having assessed all the candidates and finding PDP most qualified for the task of redeeming Anambra.

Okoli revealed further that he had consulted widely the people of his constituency who wholly supported his decision to join the PDP.

He said:

“I have decided to endorse the ticket of PDP with Mr Valentine Ozigbo and Azuka Enemuo as governorship candidate and running mate respectively to win the Nov. 6 election in Anambra State.
“I will use all the resources, contacts and enormous goodwill available to me to support their ticket.

“I took this difficult decision after due consultation with my campaign organisation and therefore urge members of this platform to please vote for Val Ozigbo and Azuka Enemuo.”

Okoli thanked Obiano for giving him the opportunity to serve and for the support he enjoyed while in APGA.

He added:

"I hereby withdraw my membership of APGA."

Bishop Kukah sends important message to Anambra people ahead of governorship election

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev Bishop Matthew Kukah, has challenged the people of Anambra state to take their destinies into their hands in making this weekend’s governorship election free, fair and credible poll.

Bishop Kukah, the Convener, National Peace Committee, spoke on the sideline at the stakeholders meeting in Awka on Wednesday, emphasizing that the people of Anambra are homogeneous culturally and religious to allow the election to divide them.

In a related development, a chieftain of the APC in Anambra state, Sam Nwosu, called on the people of the state to show their love to President Muhammadu Buhari at the forthcoming governorship election by ensuring the party wins.

It was reported that Nwosu said President Buhari's led administration has done well for the Anambra people and the southeast region as a whole and deserves to be rewarded.

He added that in terms of infrastructural development, the present administration has ensured that all regions benefit from projects.
