INEC Makes Big Promise Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election
- Nigerians have been promised of a free and fair election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
- INEC made this promise during a stakeholders meeting ahead of the coming Anambra governorship election
- Also, the electoral umpire promised that anybody that engage in malpractice will be prosecuted in the court of law
As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) moves both personnel and materials to Anambra State in readiness for the governorship election yesterday, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, has said the commission would do everything in its powers to ensure only eligible voters determine the next governor of the South-east state. Yakubu stated this on Wednesday in Awka during a pre-election stakeholders meeting with the political parties, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society groups.
But the commission was quick to add, “We are also determined to prosecute perpetrators of electoral malpractice, including any election duty staff found to be complicit. The choice of the next governor of Anambra State is in the hands of the eligible voters and their will must prevail.”
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Usman Baba, issued a stern warning on the general conduct of people during the election. Baba said the police were determined to guarantee a peaceful election in the state. He explained that the heavy deployment of security personnel to the state was not to scare away voters, but to protect everyone.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that a chieftain of the APC in Anambra state, Sam Nwosu, called on the people of the state to show their love to President Muhammadu Buhari at the forthcoming governorship election by ensuring the party wins.

It was reported that Nwosu said President Buhari's led administration has done well for the Anambra people and the southeast region as a whole and deserves to be rewarded.
He added that in terms of infrastructural development, the present administration has ensured that all regions benefit from projects.

Meanwhile, the senator had listed out what he would do in the first six months in office if elected as governor.
The APC's for the governorship election in Anambra had said that he would conduct local government election within the first six months of his first tenure as governor.
He noted the local government was the pillar of rural development, stating that the Obiano administration had deprived people of the state of the grassroots governance that they deserve.
