2023: Prominent Northern Group Openly Back Orji Kalu, Urges APC to Adopt Him as Sole Candidate

  • The Arewa Youths has openly declared their support for the Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu to become Nigeria’s next president
  • The northern group has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress to declare him as the sole candidate ahead of the 2023 election
  • The group coordinator Yakubu Muhammad described the senator as one who possesses the best qualities fit for the exalted position

Abuja- A northern group under the umbrella of Arewa Youths has expressed their full support for the chief whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu.

The group wants the Senator to become Nigeria’s next president come 2023.

According to The Punch, the group made its position known in a statement jointly signed by the national coordinator, Yakubu Muhammad and the acting secretary-general, Abdulkadir Muhammad; national organising secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, and the director of media and publicity, Musa Waziri, in Abuja on Tuesday, November 2.

Kalu is described by the group as one who has the best presidential material for the 2023 general election.

It, therefore, urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to commence a process of adopting him as the sole candidate of the party.

The group said:

“Kalu’s managerial skill, experience and national appeal put him in the best position to rule Nigeria in 2023.
“This may sound odd in the eyes of Nigerians especially those nursing the intention to run for the number one seat in the land.
“Be that as it may, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s acceptability demonstrates the settled resolve of the youths in the 19 northern states to support him to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Kalu is a results-oriented leader with a proven track record that can sustain and consolidate the gains recorded by the current administration.

“Kalu is the best bet for the APC in 2023. He is a presidential material with experience in the private sector; executive and legislative arms of government.
“It is imperative to state that, with Nigerians pushing for a President of South-East extraction, the stakeholders in APC need not look any further because the dutiful and detribalised Orji Uzor Kalu is the right candidate for the party.
“His influence cuts across all the six geopolitical zones in the country."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that a member of the Osinbajo for President group, Salihu Nataro, has said that the north is making a substantive effort to position Nigeria's vice president, Yemi Osinbajo for president come 2023.

It was reported that Nataro said there is a need to revolutionise Nigeria's education and economic sector in tune with the sustainable development goals.

Earlier, The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has described as timely and commendable the call by former military president Ibrahim Babangida to have a younger person as Nigeria's president in 2023.

The group said this in a statement signed by its national president, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, and sent to Legit.ng on Friday, August 6.

IBB had, in an interview, said he strongly believes that Nigeria’s next president should be in his 60s, ruling out the APC's national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar from the 2023 presidential race.
