Drama in Plateau as Police Arrest Impeached Speaker, 10 Assembly Members

Jos - The crisis brewing in the Plateau State House of Assembly following the impeachment of the Speaker, Hon. Abok Ayuba on Monday, November 1, took a different turn.
A report by The Nation indicates that the embattled Speaker and 10 lawmakers loyal to him were whisked away by security agents.
It was gathered that Edward Ebuka, Plateau Commissioner of Police around 3:15 pm led the 11 members of the Assembly to four awaiting Hilux vehicles before they were taken away.
Hon Zingtin Sohchang, a member representing Langtang South confirmed the development saying they were being bungled into four vehicles by security men to yet to be ascertained place.

When asked if he was under arrest, Ayuba noted he couldn't say at the moment.
Vanguard also confirming the report revealed the lawmakers were smuggled out of Assembly complex through the back southern gate by security officer led by the commissioner of police.
Security operatives dispersed protesters and some hoodlums that stormed the Plateau State House of Assembly complex with tear gas and sporadic gunshots.
Angry youths protest Speaker’s impeachment
This development is coming hours after angry youths in Plateau state staged a protest against the impeachment of speaker of the State Assembly.
The young people in their numbers carrying various placards converged at the House despite security presence around the assembly complex, calling for the impeached speaker to be reinstated.
Impeached Plateau speaker holds parallel plenary
Ayuba, on Thursday, October 28, held a parallel plenary following his immediate removal from office.
He held the session at Zawan Community Hall in Bukuru, Jos South local government area alongside other members of the House.
The embattled speaker was reported to have suspended six members said to have been responsible for his impeachment.
Governor reacts over Plateau speaker’s impeachment
Meanwhile, Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau state has reacted to Ayuba's impeachment saying that he was surprised about the development.
The governor on Thursday, October 28, who made this disclosure when the new speaker, Yakubu Sanda visited him at the Rayfield Government House in Jos, insisted that 16 lawmakers signed for the impeachment of the former speaker.
A statement issued by the governor’s director of press and public affairs, Macham Makut said, the new speaker led principal officers and some members of the House to the Government House to assure the executive arm of its collaboration and cooperation in running the affairs of the state.
