PDP National Convention: We’ll Come Out Strong, United, Says Gov Okowa

FCT, Abuja - Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would come out of its just-concluded convention more united and stronger to rescue the nation.

Okowa stated this at a dinner he hosted for leaders, delegates, and stakeholders of the party from Delta at the Governor’s Lodge, in Abuja.

The governor said that he was delighted at the turnout of delegates and leaders of the party from all the local government areas at the Delta House for the convention, noting that a lot of work had been done to stabilise the party in the country.

“In our gathering today, we have two former governors and the sitting governor and we thank God for the unity in our party in the state.
“A lot of work has been done and we believe that God is helping our party and we have every reason to thank Him.
“Two months ago, we were not able to speak like this but now there is peace in the party.
“I, therefore, urge you all to remain united and committed to working for the party to enable us to achieve our rescue mission for the country.”

Earlier, Chief Esiso had welcomed the delegates and commended the governor for his profound leadership of the party in the state and country.

He also commended leaders of the party for working hard towards a seamless convention, saying "it's a convention for celebration."

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Senator Iyorchia Ayu emerged as the new national chairman of the PDP.

The former president of the Senate who is a consensus candidate took over the leadership of the main opposition party alongside 20 others elected into various positions within the PDP National Working Committee.

Senator Ayu was declared the winner by the chairman of the Convention Organising Committee, Ahmadu Fintiri, who is also the governor of Adamawa state.

Arapaja Floors Oyinlola To Emerge PDP's Deputy National Chairman

In a related development, the Osun state chapter of the PDP on Saturday, October 30, lost out at the national convention of the party held at the Eagles Square, Abuja.

A former deputy governor of Oyo state, Taofeek Arapaja, defeated the sole candidate from Osun and a former governor of the state, Olagunsoye Oyinlola to become the deputy national chairman (south) of the party.

Arapaja, an ally of Governor Seyi Makinde, garnered 2,004 votes to defeat his only opponent, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who polled 705 votes.
