He was however elected Ondo state governor on the platform of the Labour Party (LP). The former governor also returned to the PDP before the end of his administration.
He defected to the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) shortly before the 2019 general elections and contested for the Ondo Central senatorial seat but lost.
Fintiri says Mimiko will soon join PDP
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported that the governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Fintiri, said Mimiko would soon defect to the PDP.
Fintiri who is the chairman of the PDP national convention committee said this on Tuesday, October 26, when he appeared as a guest of Channels TV's Politics Today. Reacting to the comment that the PDP has lost some of its governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fintiri said elections are not won based on the number of governors a party has.
Governor Fintiri's statement comes a few hours after the former Senate president, Bukola Saraki, said some APC bigwigs and a former governor would soon defect to PDP.
