  • The suspended national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Uche Secondus has been issued a warning
  • Secondus has been warned against making the PDP ungovernable for its leadership by the chairman of the party's board of trustee
  • Walid Jibril said it would be wrong for Secondus who is a founding member of the party to engage in activities that could destroy the party

The chairman of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Walid Jibril, has cautioned the suspended national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, against anti-party activities.

Jibril urged the suspended PDP national chairman not to make the party ungovernable for its leaders.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television Programme on Wednesday, October 27, Jibril said the party's decision on the scheduled national convention and the suspension of Secondus is supreme.

Describing Secondus as a founding member of the PDP, Jibril said the former is also a member of the party's BoT having attained the position of a national chairman.

Why Secondus should not go the fight against party path

Also, wondering aloud how the Secondus would be working against the party, Jibril said it would be wrong if the former national chairman is taking another fight with the party.

Jibril said:

“Everything will come to an end. He had been in this party since the formation of the party. Is he going to die, what is going to happen to him? Let’s look at the party as supreme and go on with the decision of this party."

“I would like to say that the convention planned for the 30th of this month is on and we’re going to be there and carry out our duties and improve our party."

Speaking further, Jibril said the party has its process and principles guiding it and he does not see why Secondus should go to this extent or try to ensure the party goes another different way completely.

According to Jibril, the suspended national chairman should have taken whatever happened simply especially as a founding member of the party.

Influence of leaders and governors on party's consensus candidates

Further reacting to issues of influence from the party heavyweights in consensus candidate for the presidential ticket, Jibril said the PDP has a structure in place to address that.

He said it is okay for governors and other party leaders to make their recommendations with respect to candidates but the decision of zoning of positions rests solely on the national executive council of the PDP.

He also prayed to the court to make an order declaring that the convention should not hold until the court makes a final decision on the matter before it.

Also, the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt Rivers state has fixed Thursday, October 28, as a date to make its final decision on the suit filed against the party.

The court during its hearing on Tuesday, October 26, chose Thursday, October 28, to hear and rule on the motion filed by Uche Secondus.
