Just In: Former Governor Set to Defect to PDP Finally Revealed
- Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state has said former governor Mimiko is set to join the opposition PDP
- The governor's statement comes a few hours after Senate president Bukola Saraki also said a former governor will soon join the PDP
- Mimiko, a former governor of Ondo state, is currently a prominent member of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP)
The governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Fintiri, has said Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of Ondo state, will soon defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fintiri who is the chairman of the PDP national convention committee said this on Tuesday, October 26, when he appeared as a guest of Channels TV's Politics Today.
Reacting to the comment that the PDP has lost some of its governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fintiri said elections are not won based on the number of governors a party has.
He, however, boasted that some prominent members of the APC will defect to the PDP ahead of the next general elections.

Governor Fintiri's statement comes a few hours after the former Senate president, Bukola Saraki, said some APC bigwigs and a former governor will soon defect to PDP.
The former Kwara governor said during an interview on Arise News TV:
“We’ve got some bigwigs that are coming to the party. This week, there’s a former governor that’ll join the party. We’ve had a couple who have joined."
Legit.ng cannot verify if former governor Mimiko mentioned by Fintiri was the same person Saraki was referring to.
APC, PDP allegedly lobby Mimiko
Meanwhile, a previous report by Vanguard had stated that there was an indication that Mimiko was being wooed by the two major political parties, APC and PDP, ahead of the 2023 general election.
The report stated that the two parties had sent emissaries to the former governor to dump his Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Mimiko left the PDP in 2018 to form the ZLP under which the former deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi contested the governorship election with the incumbent Rotimi Akeredolu in 2020.
Saraki speaks on defection, 2023 presidency
In a related development, Saraki has reacted to speculations that he may dump the PDP for the APC should he fail to get the party's presidential ticket in 2023.
Saraki while ruling out plans to abandon the opposition party said he is a team player.
According to him, it would be unfair to think he would join APC, adding that when he ran for the presidency and didn’t get the ticket in 2019, he offered himself to be the DG of Atiku Abubakar's campaign.
